KANGCHENJUNGA TREKKING
Kangchenjunga trekking leads the trek to the heart of Mt. Kangchenjunga, which is the third highest mountain in the world lies in a Taplejung district borders with Nepal and Sikkim India. The Kangchenjunga Himal ( mountain) rises with an elevation of 8586m (28169 ft).
WHAT’S THE MEANING OF KANGCHENJUNGA?
Mt. Kanchenjunga is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain massifs in the world and name Kanchenjunga means ‘Five Treasures of the Great Snow’ which is in reference to the five summits that make up Kanchenjunga Himalaya.

The region is rich in ethnic diversity and culture with over 11 ethnic communities including Limbus, Sherpa, Rai, Chhetri and Brahmins and Dalit. On the way, you will see typical monasteries, chhortens, temples, small fluttering flags and prayer walls.
WHAT’S THE KANGCHENJUNGA SIDE TRIP?
Ghunsa, Khambachen and Yamphuding is the side trip of Kangchenjunga trek. For instance, Ghunsa is famous for Ghunsa monastery. The view over Ghunsa is breathtaking with prayer flags flapping in the wind. Khambachen side is popular when you cross towards Janu Base Camp, you will have rewarding with views of the Moraine Glacier and you will also observe some newly built basic hut near the area of Janu Base Camp for Kirat people for their religious gathering, once a year. Finally, Yamphuding side is famous for an awesome trip to Timbua Pokhari. But this is an option for your tour whether you add or not.
HOW TO GET THERE?
First of all, you need a special restricted area entry permit for Kangchenjunga. After that, you can travel freely with no worries. Tablejung will be your starting point. You will have either flight or by taking the bus.
HOW’S ACCOMMODATION?
Normal hotels, guest houses and tea houses are available in the route of Kangchenjunga trek. But some area like Lonank, Selelekharka and Ramche of this trekking trail, there is not even a toilet in the tea houses, so you do not have any choice or option with regards to accommodation. HOW’S KANGCHENJUNGA TREK FOOD?
Kangchenjunga trek food is very basic. The common food over here is Dhal Bhat, thukpa, chowmein, and instant noodles whereas in some places you will find macroni, pasta, spaghetti.
WHAT’S THE BEST TIME FOR KANGCHENJUNGA TREK?
Autumn months (September-November) and spring (March to May) are considered as the best seasons for Kanchenjunga trekking.
