One of the famous pilgrimage sites of Hindus and Buddhists is Damodar Kunda. Located at an altitude of 4890m, a trek to Damodar Kunda takes you to the base of Damodar Himal. It is important to note that trekkers will need to obtain a special trekking permit to trek into this region.
Every year from April to September the site sees a large congregation of pilgrims pay homage to God Damodar. And in August pilgrims come here to take a dip during the full moon, which people believe will rinse away ones sins.
The Damodar Kunda falls on the restricted upper Mustang region between the famous Kagbeni and Muktinath. The Kunda offers impressive views of the Annapurna Himalayan ranges including Muktinath Himal (6706m), and Bhrikuti Peak (6,364m). It is believed that the Damodar Kunda is the source of the Kali Gandaki River.
